WHY DO I LIKE PAINTING?

When I started painting, at the university in 1997, I was frustrated. The paint process was so slow compared to the drawing process. I chose to paint in oils as well, to make the process even slower.

But I finally learned to love it. To enjoy that time frame where there is a space to change your mind and go back and forth and try different things. I like thick paint, I like layers, I like nuances, and I prefer lots of colors.

These were some examples of my role models at  the time:

I love the soft but rich colors of Chen Yifei, and the shapes of Francesco Clemente, as well as the fat paint from Natalie Ascencios.
